Celebrating our sketches – January 2019

Those three simple words were on my mind all weekend, as I watched our first sketching challenge of 2019 unfold. As sketch after sketch popped up in our #momentsketchers feed on Instagram — many from artists who were returning to our challenges for the first time in a while — I kept thinking about what a strong and promising start this challenge was for the new year ahead.

There’s just something about the start of a fresh calendar year that helps us reset and start fresh in life too, isn’t there? It all feels within reach: new habits, new rhythms, and new creative rituals. It’s a chance to return to the things we love and make them a bigger part of each day. I loved reading how many people in our community are setting intentions and resolutions to have their most creative year yet — and I so hope that Moment Sketchers can help you make that happen.

Before we take a look back at our Moment Sketchers January challenge, I want to leave you with one of the sketches that particularly resonated with me this weekend. It was created by Mel in New Zealand, and I especially love the words she shared with it:

I couldn’t imagine a better image and phrase to keep in mind at the beginning of a new year — and I can’t wait to keep enjoying this creative journey with you all through 2019!

While our December sketching challenge was all about the holidays, I loved how this month was simply about celebrating the essence of winter — there were hushed snowscapes, rooftops lined with icicles, and eye-catching poinsettias. Even from Uruguay, where the Southern Hemisphere summer is in full swing, I could feel the beautiful stillness of winter through your sketches:
